NCC Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Digital Integration, Pledges Stronger West African Partnerships

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening collaboration with telecom regulators across West Africa to drive digital growth and regional integration.

Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, spoke during a high-level visit by the Liberian Telecommunications Authority (LTA) in Abuja, emphasizing that Nigeria’s telecom sector is dedicated to fostering partnerships that expand the digital economy and improve citizens’ quality of life.

Represented by NCC Director of Corporate Planning, Dr. Kelechi Nwankwo, Maida highlighted the importance of platforms like the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly (WATRA) in promoting interconnectivity and regional prosperity.

He also stressed Nigeria’s recognition of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as critical national infrastructure, reinforcing its role in sustainable growth.

The LTA Chairman, Hon. Clarence Massaquoi, praised NCC for supporting regional coordination, noting that Nigeria’s progress has ripple effects across West Africa.

He shared Liberia’s ongoing bilateral telecom agreements with The Gambia and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as talks with Ghana and Guinea-Conakry, while seeking NCC’s guidance on regulatory capacity building and best practices.

Both regulators underscored the need for shared commitment, identifying priority areas for engagement to promote seamless connectivity, regional integration, and socio-economic development across West Africa.
